How we ranked them

Mat thickness affects cushioning (4-6mm is the sweet spot); material drives grip and eco-friendliness. PVC is most durable, natural rubber has best grip, and PU absorbs sweat for hot yoga. Consider weight for portability and warranty for long-term value.

We evaluate yoga mats for grip (wet + dry stability), cushioning (joint protection and thickness), durability (material longevity and warranty), eco-friendliness (material safety and sustainability claims), and value. Specs verified across Amazon listings, OutdoorGearLab, and Tom's Guide.

Questions, answered

How thick should my yoga mat be?
4-5mm is the all-around sweet spot. 6mm (Manduka PRO) for maximum joint protection. Thinner mats (3-4mm) offer better balance and stability for standing poses.
PVC vs natural rubber vs polyurethane?
PVC (Manduka PRO) is most durable with a lifetime warranty. Natural rubber (Jade, Manduka eKO) has excellent grip and is eco-friendly but degrades faster. Polyurethane (IUGA, Liforme) absorbs sweat for superior wet grip but has shorter lifespans.
Why does my new mat slip?
Many mats need break-in time. Manduka PRO grip improves significantly with use—scrub with salt water to accelerate. Natural rubber and PU mats are typically grippy from day one.
